Weiti Handy Andy

R.I.P.

30 Dec 2020 our boy Weiti Handy Andy died. Words cannot really describe what this horse has meant to us both personally and as a business but I will briefly try.

All those years ago Mum put our sporty little Panikau stallion Manuka over her big scopey homebred Dances with Fire mare Weiti Wednesday with the hope that she could produce a top quality coloured colt with height, type, talent and temperament to combine and carry on some proven and beloved kiwi lines. She really could not have been gifted a more worthy candidate than Andy.

Andy was a huge, powerhouse of a horse but had the kindest and most admirable disposition. He didn’t use his size or testosterone as an excuse to be difficult, he was always incredibly genuine with us as well as the mares and foals who ran with him over his many years at stud. He was a thinking horse, bright and honest. We were beyond lucky to have him. Andy has left a legacy, he was a very consistent sire producing hundreds of super foals with balance, scope and genuine, working horse brains. We are so, so proud of him and the quality of the stock he has left behind across the country and the disciplines.

We are counting our blessings that we have kept one of his beautiful sons, though if he could ever fill his fathers shoes maybe we would be too lucky.. This boy was truly one in a million, he was a beautiful soul and a bit of a legend. Rest In Peace Andy, we won’t be forgetting you, you incredible horse.

Picking out a future breeding prospect can be pretty tricky when you are looking at young colts but Andy was born a freak and has only exceeded our expectations as he has grown.

Andy is a phenomenally athletic horse, he packs power and scope into every move he makes. Massive ground covering trot and a mouth watering canter which makes you want to vault on and jump something big. We always intended to produce Andy under saddle however a broken knee sustained by the typically presumptuous colt when he was young put paid to his future as a riding horse.

When you step into Andy’s paddock and he comes roaring up to you from the back corner, you could be mistaken into thinking you were about to be flattened by the big, imposing stallion in his paddock full of mares! However despite his size and ‘real man’ lifestyle Andy is the kindest, friendliest fella you could ever meet. Adores attention but remains polite as can be what ever you are doing with him. You can’t help but love him!

Andy’s progeny have been extremely pleasing, Now out competing across the disciplines with both amateurs and professionals. Winning at eventing, show jumping age group classes, Junior Riders, Amateur riders, pro ams and dressage, national showing titles, sold over seas, and being generally very well utilized by riders around the country. They really are becoming prolific performers so we are very proud of Andy and his stamp.

Because of the cost effective nature of the way we manage Andy we are keeping his stud fee at an extremely affordable price so any breeder can have the opportunity to produce a quality sporthorse.

Stud fee $1000+gst  to limited outside mares.
